Yes, please start here. I want to walk you through the site as it stands right now. Things might change as I add or remove features, but either way, this needs some explaining.

PLAY

Trivia

Yellow = Easy — if you know the movie, you’ll do fine.
Black = Fan — if you’ve seen this movie a couple of times, you’ll do fine.
Red = Crazy — if you think you know the movie, you don’t.

I can’t imagine anyone getting a perfect score on Red. You’ll get some right. You’ll miss a lot too.

There are two ways to play: Timed or Casual. If you just want to play for fun, go Casual — no clock, and you can play it a million times. But if you want a shot at the leaderboard, you need to play Timed. Ten seconds per question, one attempt, that’s it.

I’d suggest playing Timed first. After that, play Casual as many times as you want. You can’t do it the other way around — once you play Casual for a given movie and tier, Timed is locked for that same tier, forever. Those are the rules. Was the guy who came up with that rule an idiot? Most definitely. But it’s there to keep the leaderboard honest.

On the Leaderboard, click a movie to see how you stack up in that tier. Once you’ve completed Timed quizzes for 10 different movies, you’re eligible for the main leaderboard — that’s where the real trash talk happens. If we get enough traffic, I may start giving away a steelbook or a limited edition disc once a month. You have to be on the main leaderboard to qualify.

Crossword

Straightforward — no timer, no colors, no tiers. Just go in and solve it. The clues range from very easy to very hard, all mixed together. There’s a Check Answers button when you’re done. Best way to play: highlight the first box, type your letter, then hit Tab or click the next box depending on direction. Refresh the page and it starts fresh. Easy.

Word Search

Same deal — 20+ words hidden in the grid. Forward, backward, diagonal, all fair game. Every word relates to the movie somehow. Click and drag to select — no typing needed. Check Answers button here too, and refreshing starts a new puzzle.

Director Match Game

Ten directors, ten movies. Drag a director onto the movie you think they made — get it right and both grey out with a checkmark. Change your mind? Click the movie again and the director goes back to the pool. Hit the button at the end to see your score. No leaderboard for this one, just for fun.

Actor Match Game

Same idea, ten actors and ten movies. Drag, drop, check your score. Refresh for a new set — usually different actors and movies each time.

MOVIES

Browse

Three ways in: by movie, director, or actor. Search a first or last name. Click a movie and you’ll get everything — cast, director, runtime, trailer, the works. Click a director and see every horror movie they’ve directed. And for actors, every horror movie they’ve been in. Could I have missed a movie somewhere? Sure. So what — we’re not curing cancer here, just trying to get more people watching horror.

This one’s fun. A growing collection of Creative Commons horror shorts from YouTube — usually 5 to 25+ minutes. Not full movies, but a good time regardless.

Reader Scary Stories

This is where you come in. Ever had something happen you couldn’t explain? Think it was a ghost, a shadow figure, your sister sneaking back in through the window past curfew? Doesn’t matter — there’s a form. Fill it out, send it in. Keep it clean — don’t drop an F-bomb every other word, this isn’t high school! — and I’ll post it. No last names required, and you don’t even need to give a first name if you want to stay anonymous. Either way: you send it, I review it, I post it.

This is where the trivia scores live. Click a movie to see that movie’s leaders, broken out by tier. Played 10+ movies? Check the main leaderboard and see where you stand.

Head-to-Head

Two movies, one pick. You’ll get 30 rounds — just choose the one you’d rather watch. Do this enough times, across enough people, and the votes start to shape where each movie lands on the Top 50. You get one round of 30 per day, so come back tomorrow and keep it going.
